Etsy currency conversion fee: when Etsy charges 2.5% and how to avoid it
Etsy charges a 2.5% currency conversion fee only when your shop's listing currency is different from the currency of your Payment account. On a $25 sale that's $0.63. If both currencies match, there's no conversion and no fee.
Below: when the fee applies, what it adds to a normal order, how to switch your shop currency, and what it means if you sell from Latin America. The rules come from Etsy's Help Center, checked on October 19, 2026.
When Etsy charges the currency conversion fee
Two currencies matter, and only these two:
- Your shop currency: the currency your listings are priced in. It's one setting for the whole shop. If you never chose one, it's US dollars.
- Your Payment account currency: it follows the country of your bank account. A US bank account means US dollars.
If they differ, Etsy converts each sale from your shop currency into your Payment account currency, takes 2.5% of the sale amount and shows you what's left. If they're the same, nothing is converted.
The currency your buyer sees doesn't matter for this fee. Buyers can browse in their own currency, and in many currencies they also pay in it. That conversion is on the buyer's side, not yours.
What 2.5% costs
| Sale amount | Conversion fee |
|---|---|
| $5 | $0.13 |
| $10 | $0.25 |
| $25 | $0.63 |
| $33 | $0.83 |
| $50 | $1.25 |
| $100 | $2.50 |
Etsy calls the base "the sale amount" and doesn't break it down further on that page. In our examples we apply 2.5% to the item plus the shipping the buyer pays. Your Etsy Payments sales CSV shows the exact figure and the market rate Etsy used. We round each fee to the cent, half-up.
A $25 sale, with and without conversion
Take a $25 item with $8 shipping, a $33 order. With US processing rates (3% + $0.25), the normal fees are $0.20 for the listing, $2.15 for the transaction fee and $1.24 for processing: $3.59 in total, so $29.41 reaches your Payment account.
If the order also needs converting, add 2.5% of $33: $0.83. Fees go to $4.42 and you get $28.58. That's 23% more than the usual fees on that order, for a line you can usually avoid.
If you sell $1,000 a month, 2.5% is $25 a month, or about $300 a year.
How to avoid the currency conversion fee
Set your shop currency to match your Payment account currency. In Etsy:
- Open Shop Manager.
- Go to Finances, then Payment settings.
- Choose Currency and pick your currency.
- Decide whether to round the converted prices of your current listings to the nearest whole number.
- Click Change shop currency.
Some things to know before you switch:
- All your listings move to the new currency. With many listings, Etsy says it can take up to an hour.
- You can go back to your old currency and prices within 14 days. After that, prices may not come back exactly as they were, because of rounding and exchange rates.
- You can't time the conversion to catch a better rate during the day.
Whether it's worth listing in one currency or another is a business decision about your buyers and your prices, not something we can tell you. Here we only explain Etsy's rule.
If you sell from Latin America
Etsy Payments works in 22 currencies, from US dollars and euros to Mexican pesos. Peruvian soles aren't one of them, so sellers in Peru are paid in US dollars through Payoneer.
So if you sell from Peru, pricing your listings in US dollars means no conversion fee. We worked through one order from Peru, with the 6.5% + US$0.30 processing rate there, in Spanish: Vender en Etsy desde Perú: comisiones y cuánto te queda.
Payoneer's own fees, like withdrawing to your local bank, are separate from Etsy's conversion fee and show up in your Payoneer account.
Other places currency shows up in your fees
The 6.5% transaction fee is charged on your price, shipping and gift wrap in your shop currency, and then every Etsy fee is converted into your Payment account currency. The Offsite Ads revenue threshold of $10,000 is always counted in US dollars, at the exchange rates Etsy used when each sale was processed.
